Nancy Barrick, Anchor

Q: Derek, tell us a little bit about the concept behind this website?

A: Well, Good afternoon…Uh, be happy to do that. We are very excited about the site launch, which occurred on Friday. SNAPforSeniors is a new, free, easy-to-use online senior housing resource that helps people find housing more efficiently and more effectively than they’ve been able to do in the past.

Q: And uh, what kind of housing are we talking about here? Is this something for active seniors looking for a uh, mother-in-law apartment or something like that or are we talking about nursing homes?

A: That’s a good question Nancy. We actually cover all types of senior housing, so that’s assisted living, skilled nursing, residential care, which here in the state of Washington is called adult family homes. We also cover all of the independent facilities, which are not normally tracked by uh other websites or by the state because they are not licensed.

Q: And how exactly does this work and how also I am sure someone listening would be wondering, how do you know if a place is legit?

A: That is an important question. What we do as a company is we take all of the information that is publicly available. We augment that information uh through more than 200 data sources that we accumulate all of that from and then we go through and we actually reach out to all facilities individually and invite them to profile themselves for free on the website so that we are able to get as much quality information as possible. So, as a consumer uh is coming to the website they are able to get the best possible known information about all those facilities and their options.

Q: Okay Derek. How does the site do business? Who pays for the postings?

A: Well, we actually have um a relationship with the facilities. We do not charge facilities to post information uh about the facility. We do charge consumers. We work in partnership with Senior Services here in the state of Washington and in King County. So, we provide our service to advocate organizations, hospitals and other groups at no charge. We do charge the facilities to be able to promote current vacancies and we also have some additional add-on content packages they can participate in like photos, and audio tours, for which there is a nominal charge.

Q: And Derek, go ahead and tell our listeners where they can go for more information?

A: They can go directly to the website. It’s www.snapforseniors.com or they can call the local Senior Services office directly at area code 206-448-5757 and speak to an advocate directly and they can help you guide your search uh to the website if you are not able to get to that directly.

Okay, thank you Derek Preston, again CEO of SNAPforSeniors on KOMO 1000 News.
