Overview
There are a variety of Relocation Services available in most areas that specialize in getting elderly homeowners into a new location. It’s a fast-growing industry, and the services vary widely – from assessment and recommendations to complete turnkey operations that handle every aspect of relocation. The main goal is to get professional help and eliminate some of the stress involved in moving when you’re older. Check your local Senior Services and the yellow pages for Relocation Services that may offer any or all of the following services:
  • Finding the right location based on personal requirements
  • Assessment for appropriate level of care
  • Recommendations of quality facilities
  • Guidance with the search process: what to look for/ questions to ask
  • Assistance with applications/entitlements
  • Managing the sale of a home
  • Helping make the best choices for downsizing
  • Arrangement of estate sales or yard sales
  • Coordination and oversight of the move
  • Packing and unpacking belongings and arranging them in the new location
  • Transferring utilities, mail, phone, etc. for the senior
  • Coordination and transfer of medical and health insurance information
  • Special travel arrangements
